Every 10 years, the U.S. government conducts the census, the results of which provide a crucial snapshot of our nation across every state, the District of Columbia, and the five U.S. territories. It shows who we are, where we live, and so much more. It’s a vital tool that’s used to ensure that our representational democracy is exactly that - representational. And, it helps give future generations - particularly those in black and brown communities - access to the resources they need to succeed.
It helps to establish accurate population numbers, determine the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives, and draws congressional and state legislative districts. The results show where communities need infrastructure - such as schools, clinics, roads, and services for families, older adults, children - and guides in the allocation of hundreds of billions of federal dollars for everything from the Head Start and school lunch programs, to support for first responders and families in need.
Filling out the census form is easier than ever to complete remotely and safely from home. It takes just 10 minutes to complete the 10 questions to ensure you are counted before the October 31st deadline. You can visit 2020census.gov or call 1-844-330-2020 to complete the census TODAY.
