About the Event

In partnership with the Caribbean Community of Philadelphia, in honor of National Caribbean American Heritage Month and in honor of the strength of the people of Haiti, we will explore the hidden history of Haiti. This documentary gives a compelling, fresh look into the strategies, motivation and mindset of 17th and 18th century Africans caught in the snares of slavery in the Caribbean and in the island of Hispaniola (Haiti and Dominican Republic), in particular.

The Hidden History of Haiti is a documentary film by filmmaker Tariq Nasheed. Nasheed is the producer of the #1 selling African history documentary series Hidden Colors. The film 1804 talks about the untold history of Haiti and the Haitian revolution, which was the most successful slave rebellion in history. As part of of the commemoration of 400 years of slavery in America, this movie is being screened to present parallels and perspectives from the past and the present conditions of African people.
